According to Forbes, of all the people they've studied at work, they found that 90% of top leaders and performers are also high in emotional intelligence. On the flip side, just 20% of bottom performers are high in emotional intelligence. You can be a top performer without emotional intelligence, but the chances are slim. There is also a direct correlation between leaders and managers with a high EQ score and employee engagement and performance. According to the Gallup 2017 State of the American Work Place, only 33% of employees surveyed are engaged at work. While there are many factors as to why engagement is so low, leaders with low EQ play a significant role in poor performance, high-turnover, the increased number of sick days taken and other costly lawsuits and settlements.
